An introduction with overtime

On August 28 the 2010/2011 SKA team was introduced in a ceremonial reception at Gazprom Neft's office in St. Petersburg.

Participants in the ceremony observed a minute of silence in memory of SKA forward Igor Misko, who tragically passed away on July 6, after which St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko gave an introductory speech and wished the team good luck in the upcoming season. The president of the Kontinental Hockey League, SKA board of directors chairman Alexander Medvedev, then gave Valentina Matviyenko a SKA jersey with the number 1 and introduced the team's new players, each of whom also received a team jersey.

That evening, the new SKA team played their traditional friendly game against the SKA-1946 youth team. As usual, they played the game with mixed rosters, and the army team were joined by players from the Gazprom Export hockey team. After an intense game, SKA secured a win driven by coaches Vladimir Yurzinov and Vaclav Sikora in overtime, 5-4. SKA-1946 were led by Ivan Zanatta and Sergei Cherkas.
